World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.
If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous attack damage every time it is upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

When an individual player improves a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also come with a bonus of its own. This could be a drawback, as the item can become more expensive even if you do not require it.
If item upgrading has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This can be beneficial but it shouldn't be done often as it can waste resources.

In addition the item will be deducted any gained bonuses, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or the speed of reloading).
